BA Hires New Director of Craft Beer Marketing

The Brewers Association announced the appointment of Julia Herz as Director of Craft Beer Marketing. Herz replaces Ray Daniels who left the position in late 2006, but remains with the Brewers Association as the Director of Brewers Publications. As the Director of Craft Beer Marketing, Herz will promote craft beer to American consumers, the wholesale and retail trade and the mainstream media.

“Julia has a passion and a vision for craft beer,” stated Bob Pease, Brewers Association Vice President. “We are excited to utilize Herz’s knowledge of the beer and wine industry coupled with her sales and PR experience to further the ever growing craft beer market.”

Most recently Herz was the Vice President of Redstone Meadery in Boulder, Colo. where she was a driving force on behalf of the mead industry. She is also one of the founding members of the International Mead Association, organizer of the International Mead Festival and has been a consultant to commercial meaderies since 1998 through her website Honeywine.com.

Prior to working at Redstone Meadery, Herz had a successful career in the brewing industry, serving as the Sales Manager for the Brewers Association (known then as Association of Brewers) for three years. She was responsible for all advertising and sponsorship sales. Additionally she is a homebrewer and recognized beer judge in the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJPC).

Herz began her career in radio and television including working as a production coordinator for Larry King Live and associate producer for CNN in Washington D.C.

“Julia is extremely familiar with the diversity, flavor and styles of craft beer,” said Pease. This position allows her to help the Association continue to educate the masses about small batch, big flavor beer and its well earned place as a mainstream American beverage.”

Herz will be based out of the Brewers Association offices in Boulder. She will be presenting a seminar on Media Training for Craft Brewers at the Craft Brewers Conference in Austin, Texas. She can be reached by email at Julia@brewersassociation.org or by phone at 303-447-0816 x 113.
