Ambitious New York Brewery Project Closes after Three Years

There are more brewery closings across the landscape than ever before, so it’s not a headline story when most breweries close their doors. But some are more notable than others.

The Farm Brewery in Upstate New York filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with more than $10 million in debts, according to an article in Syracuse.com.

The 42,000 square foot, $6 million brewery and tasting room located on 22 cares has about 100 employees and was an ambitious project when it first opened in 2016, just as the craft beer market was beginning to slow. It is one of the largest breweries in the state and the largest farm brewery on the East Coast.

The filing says the bankruptcy is meant “to ensure ongoing operations of the business so that they may be sold as going concerns,” and the brewery and tasting room have remained open for business.
