News AB-owned Platform Brewery in Cleveland Shuts Down

Anheuser-Busch owned Platform Brewery has closed its doors and ceased operation. The Cleveland-based brewery, which was founded in 2014 was acquired by AB in 2019. There is speculation that AB may continue producing some Platform core brands at one of its other facilities.

The closure includes Platform brewpubs in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, as well as Cleveland-based Platform sour beer subsidiary. The company had a round of layoffs at its Cleveland production facility in August of last year and also experienced a staff walkout at the Columbus taproom in February 2021 over pay and working conditions.

At one point, Platform was a Cleveland incubator that would give aspiring brewers the opportunity to have their homebrewed recipes enjoyed by the general public — hence the name Platform. At its height, Platform owned and operated four facilities in Ohio.
