A Boom in Austin

October 31, 2011

Seven new craft breweries will have opened by the end of the year in Austin, TX, more than doubling the number of breweries in the city.

Between 1996 and 2008, Austin had just four local breweries. Two opened in South Austin in 2010, but the big jump came this year.

Of course breweries are opening up in never-seen number across the county – the Brewers Association has about 700 ‘breweries-in-planning’ on their radar, but for a mid-sized town such as Austin, the increase of seven breweries in the span of one year is impressive.
