News Leaving Crowdfunders Behind – Hop Stuff Sells to Molson Coors

Molson Coors has purchased the London, UK Hop Stuff Brewery, to the dismay of Hop Stuff fans who donated millions to Hop Stuff’s crowdfunding campaign. Founder James Yeomans will remain with the business.

Jim Shearer, Molson Coors’ marketing director said in a The Drinks Business online article that “We recognized in the Hop Stuff team a real shared value and ethos on craft beer – that it must be accessible, inclusive and of exceptionally high and consistent quality. When we found out the company was under threat, after spending time with James and tasting these exceptional beers, we felt Hop Stuff’s beers and the ethos James had started were too good not to exist.”

Molson Coors also produces Carling and Miller in the UK and is seeking to compete in the high-end craft segment. “Our track record with Sharp’s, Franciscan Well, and most recently Aspall Cyder, is testament to the care we take with these craft brands,” Shearer said.

Hop Stuff has been in business for 6 years and has raised funds through Crowdcube three time. The company’s investors will receive nothing from the sale.
