Sleeman acquires Unibroue

Sleeman Breweries is buying Quebec microbrewery Unibroue for about $31 million Canadian. Unibroue exports a wide range of Belgian-influenced beers to most part of the United States, including Blanche de Chambly and La Fin du Monde.

“The acquisition of Unibroue and its premium rands will complement Sleeman’s current portfolio, in addition to providing he required infrastructure to expand our presence in Quebec.” Sleeman chairman and chief executive officer John Sleeman said. The deal is expected to close in June.

The purchase gives Guelph, Ont.-based Sleeman increased brewing capacity in Eastern Canada, and will also allow the Ontario brewer to expand its Quebec presence.
