News Mammoth Brewing Acquires Lead Dog Brewing

Mammoth Brewing Company of Mammoth Lakes, California today announced the acquisition of Lead Dog Brewing in Reno, Nevada.

“Both brands will remain unique and distinct from each other,” said Sean Turner, owner of Mammoth Brewing

In a relatively slow start in mergers and acquisitions during the first quarter of 2021, this craft-on-craft deal may signal the start of more to come as the pandemic begins to loosen its grip on the industry.

Mammoth Brewing Company was founded as the first craft brewery in the Eastern Sierra in 1995 and operates a small brewery and tasting room in the ski town of Mammoth Lakes. The brewery also hosts the popular Mammoth Festival of Beers & Bluesapalooza in Mammoth Lakes in August. The deal will give Mammoth the much-needed production capacity to meet demand for its packaged beer which has previously been brewed under contract at great Basin Brewing in Reno, Nevada.

“There will be no change in brand names nor reduction in focus of either brand, and there are no plans to reduce personnel,” Turner said in a statement. “If anything, both brands are excited to grow with additional people, products & packages, and a revitalization of all locations. Mammoth Beers LLC, as the new parent company to both brands, has strong history of employee retention and engagement in our local communities.”

As the craft brewing industry slowly ramps back up after a 9% decline in volume production during 2020, it is expected that there will be additional craft-on-craft acquisitions and partnerships in coming months to increase efficiencies.
