I am working on my start-up plan which is being tailored to contract brewing for the start. I have my contract brewery in mind but still working on the ins and outs of the plan to figure out my costs, investment, etc.
Question to throw out there is anyone have any insight into legally the set-up? I would like to launch my actual brewing company, but the beer would actually be contract brewed, and I am also looking to self-distribute.
The filing of the corporation is the easy part, the government (TTB and NJ ABC) regulations are another thing. If I am contract brewing, but want the brewing co. (mine) as an actual entity, do I have to get the same permits that the brewery actually already has that I am contracting with? I will be working hands-on with the contract brewer actually brewing my own beer, but basically the contract brewer would be charging my brewing co. the cost of the contract brew. My brewery would be buying the ingredients, packaging, etc. But my brewing company would technically have to sell to my distribution company in order for the self-distribution to take place.
So what I am looking for is anyone that can shed some light on the legal arrangement, what entities I need to start-up, etc. in order to make my beer somewhere else (contract) under my brewing co. label, and then self-distribute it myself. The plan is later after my brand is established to eventually open my own brewery operations.\
Any input, experience stories, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
