The people who would like to have government regulate any of our behavior have been really busy of late trying to ban "Happy Meals" and alcohol consumption has always been a favortie target to put us out of business. There was an article in the BBC today that will surely add fuel to the controversy that our businesses contribute to the ill health of the masses. Working as a health care research scientist for many years I can spot flawed clinical research miles away and this study has many issues in how they used control variables in the study to present misleading data results. Even though, these types of poor studies just as those used to support the premise of global warming still help these people push their agendas with politicians who can pass legislation to hurt our businesses.
In research studies the total cancer risk for the targeted population in the study due to all factors must first be evaluated, and to study the contribution of just alchohol would have to control all of the other factors that could lead to higher cancer risk which would be very problematic to do. The overall percentage of alcohol cancers in the total population versus all cancers in the population would be very low. But these studies look at only hard core groups of high consumption to bend the data to their own agenda. Our industry must do everything we can to counter with data of our own to fight this battle. The following articles are a sampling of the problem we face. Of course the kooks want to ban us eating meat, drinking alcohol, but I wonder if they are willing to give up their Sushi.

Thanks Wolfgang for this post.

I agree we need to be active in promoting the many studies that have determined the health benefits of alcohol consumption.

I know that the state-based craft brewers guild in California is collecting data and studies that confirm the benefits of alcohol. If you have any such studies, research or data on this, please point me to it so I can forward on.

Thanks!

Posts were deleted here....this is not a political forum. If you have comments on politics as it relates to our industry or related issues....that is fine.
