The Head Brewer for this start-up located in Norfolk, Virginia will be responsible for managing all aspects of the brewing and packaging operations. A professional manner, a dedication to safety, organization and self-motivation are essential for this position. Previous professional brewing experience in a packaging brewery is required and some degree of formal brewing education (Siebel, UCSD, etc.) is desired. Experience as a lead brewer or other supervisory position is preferred.
The hours will be start-up hours (which is to say crazy at times) and the head brewer will be asked to participate in some marketing functions such as festivals and tastings. You must be able to lift sacks of grain (55 pounds) and other heavy objects, climb stairs and perform other tasks typical of a production brewery.
Currently, we are in the process of evaluating bids on a new 30 bbl system.
The successful candidate will be involved in the strategy and planning of the brewery and will have the opportunity to contribute to the big picture items both before and after opening. In other words, you will be given the opportunity to leave your stamp on the company and the beers that are produced.
