So I just tapped my Imperial PalE Ale. Someone asked me what makes it different than an IPA? I know what I think and its my interpatation, but since there is no actual "style" of Imperial Pale, how would you go about explaining it to them?
Basically I see that IPA ends at about 7.5%abv. this beer is 8 but not hoppy enough to be an Imperial IPA which is a style. Its more malty and balanced, just bigger. Agree, disagree, suggestions?

Sounds to me like you have a GABF (2009) Style #46: American-Style Strong Pale Ale (http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/beer_styles3.html), although a little stronger than listed.
You could also look at the American Barleywine style.
http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/catdex.php is a good source for style descriptions, in addition to the GABF list.

The GABF link is 404 page not found. Excellent suggestion though.
Take off the trailing ")" from the GABF link and it works.

One could do that; plus remove two of the three trailing dots, add an org and a / and you are ready OR links can (should) be posted like this and tested with the preview button prior to punching submit:
GABF 2009 Style #46 (http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.org/beer_styles3.html)
or
BJCP Style #19 Barleywine (http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style19.php)
(forum style nazi done, class dismissed)
