wondering if anyone knows as to why the santa monica brewery ended up shutting down. Also any information about this brewery would be good. Doing some research on opening a brewery in the area.

I believe you are talking about the Brewhouse, which used to be on the Third Street Promenade, and was changed into a sushi restaurant, which may or may not still be there. If memory serves, it was connected with the brewpub that was near USC. They had similar beers at both locations, like Lobotomy Bock.

Or you could be talking about Eureka, which was Wolfgang Puck's failed attempt at a brewpub in West Los Angeles. Spent too much money, and tried to do too many things at once. Wanted to be a complete microbrewery, with kegs and bottles and all that it entails, as well as a brewpub.

Cheers,
--Jake

Bell's Brewery purchased the old Wolfgang Puck system for their new brewery. If memory serves it was a 50 bbl. brewhouse. The Krones bottling line went to the Schlafly BottleWorks in St. Louis via Bell's.
