years after marketers had decided to quit selling the beer as Newcastle

Brown Ale. Scottish Courage redesigned the label to add a "sensible

drinking" message, and decided to revert back to the beer's original name,

even though Newcastle Brown's sales were steady. For the UK's biggest

domestically-based brewer, the decision made sense; sales hadn't changed

downward, and with the label's redesign to add the sensible drinking

message, it was seen as an opportunity to put the 'Ale' back in Newcastle

Brown Ale.
