Sea Dog Reopens

Apr 14, 2003 - Shipyard Brewing Co. in Portland, ME has reopened two of the three Sea Dog brewpubs that it purchased last winter after the Sea Dog Brewing Co. declared chapter 7 bankruptcy. The Sea Dog in Topsham, ME has been serving customers since February, minus its brewing equipment. Topsham Pale Ale, an English-style pale ale, is being brewed especially for the pub by Shipyard, according to Shipyard co-owner and brewmaster Alan Pugsley.

A second Sea Dog, in Bangor, ME, reopened on Tuesday, April 8. That location will be brewing some of its beers on-site with Shipyard supplying the rest. Shipyard permanently shuttered a third Sea Dog brewpub, in Camden, ME. Pugsley added, however, "We are potentially looking for another facility in the area, but a little bigger." That branch will include a brewery and will probably not open before 2004.
