Indian Casino Brewpub is a First

Feather Falls Casino brewpub is first in the country

The Feather Falls Casino Brewery that opened last week is the first tribe-owned casino with a brewery in the U.S. the Casino is located in Oroville, California, about 20 minute drive southeast of Chico.

The $8.5 million expansion includes a 7-bbls new window-encased brewhouse, a state-of-the-art sound system and stage, a sushi and pizza area, including an Italian-style pizza oven; all set off by a semi-circular granite counter. Accenting the counter is a wide band of hammered Canadian pennies.

The brewery will start serving its craft brew in January as well, and only at the restaurant, according to brewmaster Roland Allen, who also brewed for Sierra Nevada and Butte Creek. Seven ales, with names like Maidu Pale Ale and Feather Falls Thunder are planned.

Video gambling monitors will of course be scattered throughout the brewery.

I am not sure if Feather Falls can claim to be the first. i just hope they can immediately claim to be the best. I have been to Mohegan Sun… for a Phil and Friends show. The beers are quite ‘sub par’ but I believe it is owned and operated by the tribe. The beers are available throughout the casino and you can see the small brewhouse in a window in the sports book.

    reviews are pretty poor unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply MatthewS. i was dubious about it being the first — but that is what they “claim” in their media release.

I always wondered if there were any other breweries out there located on an indian reservation. We’ve been around for over eight years up here on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai res.

Mt. St. Helena in Middletown, CA is Native American-owned and supplies their casino and elsewhere.
