The annual Beerdrinker of the Year competition sponsored by Wynkoop Brewing Co. has been suspended. The competition has been put on hold until further notice while Wynkoop founder John Hickenlooper serves as mayor of Denver.
Hickenlooper was elected last spring, and has put involvement with the brewery-restaurant he helped start in 1988 at arms length while he is mayor.
The competition was held for seven years, with beer drinkers from across the country submitting their resumes before three were flown to Denver each January for the final judging.
Ray McCoy, the 2003 winner, will serve as reigning Beerdrinker of the Year until the competition resumes.
