News Deschutes Hires MC Sales Exec
Deschutes Brewery has hired Jeff Billingsley as its new marketing director. Billingsley, who has worked in the beverage and beer industry for the last 18 years, will oversee all the company’s marketing functions, including product promotions, packaging, events, advertising, digital media and more. Billingsley brings extensive experience in beer brand management and field marketing to his new position.

According to an article in the Hip Hops with Evan Benn column in Stltoday.com, Attorneys for Anheuser-Busch InBev have filed federal trademark applications for “STL,” “ORD,” “MCI” and about 40 other of the nation’s busiest hubs, including LAX (Los Angeles), SFO (San Francisco), MIA (Miami), BOS (Boston) and LGA (New York LaGuardia).

News 'Action Alert!' in NY
New York small brewers are asking beer consumers to support their efforts to to pass Senate Bill 7344 and Assembly Bill 10181 to create a Beer Production Tax Credit. These bills would allow New York’s craft breweries to remain competitive by utilizing a tax credit of 14 cents per gallon of beer produced in New York State for the first 200,000 barrels of beer. The fate of this important bill now lies in the hands of the Legislature and the Governor.

News It’s Official – 2000
When Brewers Association staff returned home after the 2012 Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego, they turned their attention to the end-of-month reports they pull from the database for member count, operating brewery count, dues sent in by members, BA Forum users, and circulation numbers for The New Brewer. Lo and behold; the operating brewery count hit 2,051 as of April 30, 2012. The current count of craft brewers stands exactly at 2,000 and the count of domestic non-craft brewers stands at 51.

News Sierra Announces NC Head Brewer
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. announced today that Scott Jennings will be the Head Brewer of the brewery’s new eastern facility in Mills River, NC. Scott has been with the company since 2001 in various capacities. In 2004, Scott was named Research and Development Head Brewer, responsible for overseeing the brewery’s 10-barrel pilot brewhouse, where most of the in-depth technical research and recipe development takes place.

News Virginia Gov Signs Pro-craft Legislation
Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell today signed two pieces of legislation to support Virginia craft brewers at the Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. House Bill 359 (McClellan) allows manufacturers to lease space in their brewhouses to smaller-scale brewers and Senate Bill 604 (McWaters) allows retail sales of beer and sampling on the premises of Virginia breweries.
